WEDDING HAIR INSPIRATION: 1940’s Glamour with neutral Hollywood Style

Back again with the second in our wedding hair inspiration series! If you missed our first article on styling Bantu Knots for your big day, you can check it out again here.

Today we are talking about the retro 1940’s pin curl hairstyle and using inspiration from real brides, we are going to mix it up with a modern glamourous twist. If you have relaxed, pressed out hair or a weave then this will be an easy look to do. You could even add in hair pieces and then pin them up.

Here are our real brides wearing the 1940s hairstyle!

So now you have the 1940s hairstyle, you could customise the look with a 1940s wedding dress and go the whole hog, but we are going to go for the modern  look. Some fashion purists say that  you should stick to one era, and not mix and match different decades, but we like to push the fashion boundaries here at the Bride of Colour blog! (Plus everything comes back in fashion if you wait long enough lol!)

Wedding Dresses: Modern wedding dresses that work well with this hairdo are loose v-necks and round necks that skim the shoulder blades. Strapless wedding dresses don’t work so well with this look, as it can look quite stark if your décolletage is bare, though you can cover up with a jacket to get that V-line again. Don’t be afraid to go for wedding dresses with lacy or geometrical patterns.

Dresses from: Victoria Jane, Maggie Sottero & Alfred Angelo.

Jewellery: Pearls work very well with this look. Think invisible pearl necklaces, bracelets and understated pearl stud earrings.  If the wedding dress is very ornate at the neckline, consider not having a necklace. Perhaps limit the the diamontes to the side tiara or comb, drawing attention to the hairstyle.

Veils: Veils work well with this look, have them towards the back of your head, and let that side tiara or comb sparkle! As your wedding dress is likely to be lacy or detailed, go for a plain veil without diamontes.

Flowers: Neutral Cream Hand Tied roses

Shoes: Peep Toe High Heel Shoes, yes please!

Nails: You can’t go wrong with a classic French manicure!
